Just like the Law of Gravity operates without our awareness, there are three laws of mind that run in the background of our lives, they are:
- Law of Concentrated Attention
- Law of Reversed Effect
- Law of Dominate Effect
Information provided by the Dallas Hypnosis Training Institute, Inc. Level Two Course Work:
Law of Concentrated Attention. One’s attention is concentrated on an idea over and over until it spontaneously tends to realize itself.
Example: Radio and TV commercials cause people to buy advertised products. Attention is gained through subliminal stimulation which is more effective than persuasion because critical faculties are reduced.
Law of Reversed Effect. The harder one tries to do something, the less chance of success.
Example: Trying to recall someone’s name. Or the insomniac who tries to go to sleep. Stimulating the imagination will most likely produce results because that imagination is in the subconscious.
This law applies itself during the trance induction part of a hypnosis session wherein the client “tries” to make his subconscious mind do something it can not due by thinking it into happening. Trance is achieved when the client relaxes and enjoys the experience in their own way. In other words, when a person relaxes and stops trying, results follow. The answers do not come will focusing consciously on the answer, for recall is the work of the subconscious mind. So when a person relaxes and stops thinking of the answer, the subconscious releases it because that is where our memories are stored.
Law of Dominate Effect. Stronger emotions tend to replace weaker ones. Attaching a strong emotion to a suggestion tends to make the suggestion more effective.
Example: When a person is having a pleasurable emotional experience and danger is imminent, the stronger emotion of danger displaces the pleasurable one, which disappears instantly if the danger is pronounced.
Example: A child slams a door on his finger and his mother says, “I’ll just kiss it and the pain will go away.” Here the mere touch of a mother’s lips becomes the more dominant suggestion and makes the finger feel better.
