It took super girl strength, but I uprooted my feet on the soil where I planted them over 30 years ago (yikes) and sold my house and bought an acre in Princeton TX (Collin County). My place is rural, the nearest commercial structure is a fireworks stand.
Now I’m standing on new ground. Wondering when the roots will grow into this new place.
Everything is different. People, stores, roads, scenery, attitudes (good so far).
And I’m wondering how I’ll fit in. It’s interesting, I am going for “country farm girl” but seem to be the only one on my road planning a garden. I have seen very few backyard gardens in this remote area, which is strange to me because the grocery store is not convenient, at all. The Wal-Mart 15 minutes away doesn’t count in my opinion and I won’t shop there.
I enjoyed going in the Tractor Supply and was excited to see they stock 1100 gallon water tanks and are also a source for boots and hats as well as chicken wire and feed-all the necessities.
Hiking is great, my place is a mile from the shores of Lake Lavon. There are trails that are maintained by the Trinity Trail Authority and stretch 25 miles along the shore.
As of this writing I have not officially moved there, my house is being set up now, but I am visiting weekly the area and settling into the idea. Princeton, I hope you are ready for this pioneering woman.
