What God Showed Me At Devils Tower Monument.

Does God speak to us directly, or through nature or through hypnosis?

What I do know is that if we take our questions or our troubles out in nature, the natural world has a way of sparking an idea or unveiling an insight. We start on the trail with a heavy heart or a scrambled brain and end the hike with a feeling of lightness and clarity or inspiration. The phenomenon is similar to what occurs in the subconscious mind. That is because hypnosis and hiking create similar states of mind called Trance.

Speaking of phenomenon. This!

Devils Tower National Monument in Wyoming

So how did this happen? The Devils Tower ? The story isn’t as interesting as the one I had in my head. In my version, this monument raised up from Hell in a hot lava crash between evil and good. The devil rose up in the form of molten magma but The Good breathed the breath of spirit and the magma slowed and cooled and became a monument of how good overcomes evil.

Now For The Geological Story

What really happened is 50 (give or take) million years ago molten magma was forced into sedimentary rocks above it and cooled underground. As it cooled it contracted and fractured into columns. Over millions of years, erosion of the sedimentary rock exposed the tower.

I mused about my story of good vs evil as I hiked the 4 miles around the tower in a state of hypnosis.

hypnosis, nature, trails,
Maybe all those rocks are old thoughts that fell away to review the tower. Hmmmmm.

When you are hiking there is nothing really to do but watch in front of you and think, and think. Taking a question or a trouble with you on a hike is one of way of finding a resolution. You see, when you are away from the outer world you have access to your inner world where you have all the answers to all the questions. The same is true of hypnosis. In a hypnotic state you are hyper focused on finding clarity or removing an obstacle and your unconscious mind goes to work to find resolution. And as I walked along I remembered one of the Beatitudes from Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount.

“Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God.”

That was the thought I had on the trail after my story of the tower ran its course. In difficult times it is usually the negative, the bad, the evil that gets noticed. Not the peacemakers. I asked God to help me understand how I could be a more verbal peacemaker and God said “Write About It.” A friend once told me he was tired of me complaining about people that waste water and do to something about it and so I did.

Scripture is hard to understand and thanks to Emmet Fox and his book, “The Sermon on the Mount” we have modern day text to bring understanding. Although this beatitude is self explanatory but the question is how to be a peacemaker.

According to Fox, prayer creates peace and serenity deepens prayer. By the way, the Native Americans placed prayer flags all around the monument. Prayer is communing with the divine, source energy, God. I think it is necessary to also commune and have reverence for the divine or God within us. Love your temple they say. Being a peacemaker means to say a silent prayer when a difficult situation arises: Pray for wisdom and strength. Fox also states that being in a state of serenity is a grand passage to God.

How to commune in nature and gain insights.

So here is what you can do to reveal your own insights or clear your mind. Plan your outing and follow through. You can do this in a city park just as well as a national park. And you can also do it walking around your neighborhood. Next, leave your phone behind. Start your walk with an intention. Ask, “What would it take for me to ___________?” Next, step a few steps, it might be 5-10 minutes before your mind slows down and after that you are all unconscious wonderment. Enjoy and please thank the all that is for your answers and inspirations.
